Our PHILOSOPHY
The Arts constitute a fundamental expression of human behaviour and the human condition, encompassing historical and cultural diversity, playing an important part in the constant process of social and cultural definition and redefinition, reflecting the society from which it emerges.
At CCSS we aim to create opportunities for each student to explore, discover and develop their unique artistic potential. Within our Selective Entry Program students’ learning outcomes are enhanced with the opportunity to participate in diverse and high quality curriculum offerings. Visual Arts at Charles Campbell Secondary School
Visual Arts provides students with opportunities to develop skills and techniques, and to gain knowledge of contemporary and past art.
Through practical projects, year 8 and 9 students study the fundamentals of the production of art works. Students display appropriate skills in the basic elements and principles, developing a visual practice and language. Students develop knowledge and awareness of the natural and human made world through observational drawings. A variety of media and technique skills are developed to enable students to document and express ideas about their world, either real or imagined.Traditional skills in the use of coloured painting media are employed, culminating in finished art works.
To produce art works, students use mixed media and expressive qualities of materials. Students explore three dimensional concepts such as ‘Bas Relief’ and sculpture 'in-the-round.’ A variety of materials are used and can include wood, metal, found objects, plaster, clay and cardboard. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas and also draw inspiration from past and present cultures.
Photography as an art form is taught with an emphasis on creativity and visual awareness. Students record themselves and their environment through a variety of assignments. Opportunities exist for off campus ‘photo shoots’ through excursions to various locations, eg. Zoological and Botanic Gardens, coastal and cityscape environs.
