The weekly Vista sports competition wrapped up on Tuesday (3/7) with the Grand Final taking place after 7 rounds of home and away competition. Charles Campbell was represented by an 8/9 football team and two Open girls netball teams, competing against various schools in the North East zone. Despite stiff competition against some very strong schools, the 8/9 boys’ football team managed to finish in third position – developing and becoming more cohesive as a team over the course of the term, to play some great football. The sportsmanship and competitiveness was inspiring throughout, and leaves us very optimistic for the future of football at CCC. With a strong interest and willingness from the Open girls in years 10, 11, and 12, we had enough numbers to field two teams in the netball competition. Despite some interruptions to the schedules, both teams were able to apply themselves throughout and produce some excellent results. These strong performances lead to a Grand Final berth for the CCC1 team against Modbury High school! Despite experiencing a close loss to Modbury in round 1 of the competition, the girls were determined not to be outdone again, and produced some scintillating netball in a hotly contested match that went back and forth for much of the game. When the final whistle sounded, nothing was separating the two teams, and an ensuing 5 minutes of extra time was played to see if the deadlock could be broken. Some great all-round netball over the entire court saw CCC capitalise on their opportunities and maximise their opportunities with the ball to pull off a stunning win – 47 v 43! Congratulations to Mr Yeend (coach) and the girls – Georgia, Tamieka, Jasmine, Courtney, Emilee, Shanti, and Tayla for their success! A big thanks to Mr Willsmore (coach 8/9 boys football), Ms Kulikovsky (coach CCC2 netball) and Mr Yeend (coach CCC1 netball) for their efforts and contribution to sporting life of Charles Campbell, without their assistance and expertise these competitions would not go ahead. Congratulations as well to all the students involved throughout the competitions for their participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment over the term. We look forward to further student involvement throughout the new vista competitions taking place in term 3! Saturday Netball
The R-6 College students are currently involved in a Saturday morning netball competition being played against various schools throughout the area across a variety of age groups including under 7s, under 9s (x2) and under 11s. There are many students, both boys and girls, involved in these teams and they have competed for a number of weeks now, with an upcoming break heading into the school holidays before re-commencing in term 3. Some of the competition results so far – Round 1 Under 7s – Draw 1 v 1 Under 9s Netta 2 – Win 17 v 3 (Nailsworth) Under 9s Netta 4 – Win 8 v 2 (East Para Primary) Under 11s – Draw 5 v 5 (Wilderness) Round 2 Under 7s – Win 1 v 0 Under 9s Netta 2 – Win 8 v 3 Under 9s Netta 4 – Lost 4 v 7 Under 11s – Win 9 v 4 Round 3 – Long Weekend Bye Round 4 Under 7s – Lost 3 v 0 Under 9s Netta 1 – Lost 6 v 9 Under 9s Netta 4 – Lost 3 v 10 Under 11s – Bye Round 5 Under 7s – Lost 2 v 1 Under 9s Netta 1 – Lost 7 v 8 Under 9s Netta 4 – Bye Under 11s – Won 8 v 6 Round 6 Under 7s – Won 1 v 0 Under 9s Netta 1 – 8 v 7 Under 9s Netta 4 – 12 v 1 Under 11s – Won 10 v 9 The running of these teams is only possible through the generous personal time given by Ms Russell, Ms Camporeale and Ms Palmer to help organise, coach and facilitate the teams taking part. Without their personal commitment to these students, they would not have the opportunity to develop and further their skills while having the fun they do! Keep posted for further updates at the conclusion of the season in term 3! While the action is currently taking place on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games, the student athletes of Charles Campbell were competing in their own athletics competition last Thursday at the Interschool Track and Field Championships at SANTOS Stadium. A bright and sunny day made for perfect conditions for the 33 students who participated in the events that they had successfully won or placed second in from the CCC sports day. It was great to have a number of students help fill in missing spots and have a go at events that they hadn’t previously done, in particular the hurdles and steeplechase. The attitude and willingness of the students was great to see and contributed to some great placings in the division 1 category – with the boys finishing on 260 points in 6th position, and the girls narrowly missing out on first by 4 points, to finish on 297 points in second. These results left Charles Campbell to finish in 3rd position overall on the day against seven other schools, a fantastic result! There were some outstanding results on the day, with a number of students placing first, second and third in their events, as well as performing personal bests in a number of events. Successful students were- U14 Boys Matthew Lill – Long Jump. Alex Van Wyk – Discus. Girls Furtuna Legesse – 800m, 1500m. Hayley Jamison – Shot Put U15 Boys Tatenda Nyaruwe (100m, 200m), Braxton Conradi (400m), James Candeleria (Javelin). Emjai Santos-Paje (Shot Put, Discus), 4x100m Relay Team. Open Girls Makayla Saunderson (Triple Jump, High Jump), 4x100m Relay Team Congratulations to all students involved on the day for their efforts and participation. A special thanks as well to Aidan, Bree, Finlay and Sophia who volunteered and helped with the marshaling on the day. We could well have witnessed some budding athletic stars of the future! It was a hot summer’s day on Friday 9th March, but that didn’t dampen spirits for the annual CCC R-12 sports day! The R-6 students undertook a mix of athletic and challenge events on the north oval, while the 7-12 students competed on the south oval in a combination of track, field, and novelty events. Brilliant efforts were displayed throughout the numerous events, particularly in some trying conditions at times, and great to see many students getting involved and participating in different events to help boost the points total for their house colour. The Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow houses were supported with some fantastic costumes and colours as students showed their pride and represented their team in a positive light! A big thank you to staff and students who were onsite at 7am to help set up for the day’s proceedings to ensure everything was organised and set to kick off on time. Thanks also to everyone who helped on the various stalls throughout the day to supply students and parents with food, cakes, and drinks, as well as henna art tattoos. Through these endeavours students and teachers were able to raise money to help benefit the school sport undertaken at CCC, along with raising money for Amnesty International to help support human rights. Numerous parents and caregivers helped contribute to the atmosphere of the day by coming along, cheering and supporting the students involved in the day!
Congratulations to
Gul Zehra: U15 Girls Shot Put – 9.39m for breaking a school record! Thanks to all staff and students for their efforts on the day, making it an enjoyable and entertaining experience in spite of the warmer weather. A great effort by the Green house team who took out the double as the successful house team in both the junior and senior competitions! Congratulations in particular to those students who were successful in winning their events on the day. The Secondary School Track and Field Champs team will be selected from the sports day results and students will be notified accordingly. Our secondary school team will compete on Thursday April 5th at SANTOS stadium, while the junior school team will compete in the SAPSASA Athletics Primary Championships which will occur during Term 3. Both these days will cater for those parents/caregivers who wish to come down to support their children. We look forward to a bigger and better sports day in 2019, and to continue the rich sporting traditions here at Charles Campbell College. Mr Jack Hannath Sports Coordinator Last Wednesday 7th of March, nineteen year 10, 11, and 12 students attended the VSA Schools Beach Volleyball tournament at Glenelg on a pristine summer’s day. The day was full of action packed fun, with teams playing through 4 rounds of competition, before all four CCC teams (2 boys and 2 girls) progressed through to the finals. The girl’s semi-final was an all Charles Campbell affair before the girls team consisting of Keeleigh, Courtney, Leah, Emilee and Jasmine progressed through to the Grand Final, and ultimately triumphed in a close match against Paralowie to take out the tournament! Congratulations to all those students who represented Charles Campbell for their effort and achievement on the day! |
