While the action is currently taking place on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games, the student athletes of Charles Campbell were competing in their own athletics competition last Thursday at the Interschool Track and Field Championships at SANTOS Stadium. A bright and sunny day made for perfect conditions for the 33 students who participated in the events that they had successfully won or placed second in from the CCC sports day. It was great to have a number of students help fill in missing spots and have a go at events that they hadn’t previously done, in particular the hurdles and steeplechase. The attitude and willingness of the students was great to see and contributed to some great placings in the division 1 category – with the boys finishing on 260 points in 6th position, and the girls narrowly missing out on first by 4 points, to finish on 297 points in second. These results left Charles Campbell to finish in 3rd position overall on the day against seven other schools, a fantastic result! There were some outstanding results on the day, with a number of students placing first, second and third in their events, as well as performing personal bests in a number of events. Successful students were- U14 Boys Matthew Lill – Long Jump. Alex Van Wyk – Discus. Girls Furtuna Legesse – 800m, 1500m. Hayley Jamison – Shot Put U15 Boys Tatenda Nyaruwe (100m, 200m), Braxton Conradi (400m), James Candeleria (Javelin). Emjai Santos-Paje (Shot Put, Discus), 4x100m Relay Team.
