Last Friday the annual sports assembly was held in the gym to recognise the achievements and efforts of the CCC students over the course of the year. Students have participated in a range of sporting endeavours this year in a variety of competition formats including vista weekly sport, day carnivals and knockout sport. In total, there have 556 student participations in sport this year from 289 individual students throughout the college from R-12. This is a great representation of the positive impact sport is having across the school, helping to assist the physical and mental well-being of students, sportsmanship, competitiveness, and the development of stronger relationships with fellow students and teammates. For each sport and team that was represented throughout the year, the coach in charge selected a medal recipient based on the values demonstrated throughout the competition that they felt best represented the team overall. Students who had represented the state throughout the year were also recognised for their outstanding achievements. The other major individual awards on the day were the presentation of the prestigious sportsperson of the year award, highlighting outstanding involvement, service and representation of CCC in interschool sport. This award was presented to a male and female in each area of the school – junior, middle and senior. The sportsperson of the year recipients were:- Junior - Dash Moore and Emma Marzano Middle - Tom Carroll and Furtuna Legesse Senior – Cameron Smith and Gul Zehra Other significant awards presented at the assembly were for sports day held at the start of the year, and the Pat O’Brien shield, which is a competition held between year 11 and 12 students, established to continue the competitive spirit and challenge for students in senior years. Pat O’Brien was the Health and PE Coordinator for over 15 years at CCC, retiring in 2011. Sports day winner – Green (1207 points). Other placings – Blue (989 points), Red (887 points), Yellow (816 points). Pat O’Brien shield winner – Year 12s The assembly gave students the chance to thank staff for their efforts and contributions to the school sporting life throughout the year. A number of staff took on the roles of managing, coaching and transporting students to and from competitions. We again thank the efforts of students and teachers alike for their contributions throughout the year, and look to build on this momentum during term 4 and into 2019!
