We want all of our students to be safe and happy, in all aspects of their lives. Students who feel good about themselves, have the confidence to face the everyday challenges life brings with it. They participate and contribute positively to their family, school and the local community. Unfortunately, however, when students experience mental-health problems this can affect their feelings, thoughts, behaviours and actions. This can interfere with engagement and performance at school and in their relationships with others. We all play a key role in ensuring students who are experiencing issues with mental health are supported. This applies equally to staff, students and families. If families or students are concerned about students or their friends please do not hesitate to contact the school and we will do our utmost to provide and facilitate support for you and the students. We will include regular items on mental health in our future newsletters, however, in the meantime here are some useful contacts for support: Beyond Blue (To speak to a trained mental health professional): Ph 1300 22 46 36 Lifeline (Crisis support and suicide prevention): Ph 13 11 14 Kids Helpline (To speak to a Kids Helpline Counsellor): Ph 1800 55 18 00 Eheadspace (Online counselling for 12-25yr olds): www.eheadspace.org.au Beyond Blue (Online Chat): https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/get-immediate-support Lifeline (Crisis Support Chat): https://www.lifeline.org.au/Get-Help/Online-Services/crisis-chat Sue George-Duif Principal SACE Art Show 2016 Congratulations to Alice Hu who has been selected to have her work displayed at the SACE Art Show 2016. Alice is exhibiting ‘Truth’, a mixed media piece featuring elements about life and death. Her work is among more than 130 pieces selected for display at the Show. This year’s exhibition features traditional paintings and drawings, sculptures, costumes and multimedia works created by Year 12 students who have completed their SACE Visual Arts – Art, and Visual Arts – Design subjects. The Show, open at the Light Square Gallery until 4 May, is designed to inspire current and future SACE art and design students and raise awareness about how these subjects can be used as stepping stones to higher education and career pathways. Show visitors have an opportunity to win a prize worth $500 by simply voting for their favourite piece as part of the Community Award, sponsored by Credit Union SA. Also, a “Meet the Artists” afternoon will be held on Saturday 16 April to enable visitors to get a greater insight into the creative processes and inspiration behind a number of the works. Some Australians are just becoming aware about the possibility of an election coming our way soon.
Lauren MacFarlane and Darcy Nelson have returned from a fabulous experience in Canberra full of a more sophisticated and deeper understanding of the key legal document in Australia’s legal system. The Constitution. Other highlights were debates, dinner at the High Court of Australia, mixing with politicians, and other keen legal students from around the country.
