How does the service work?
The School Mental Health Service (SMHS) provides a brief intervention service – short term, time limited support of up to 8 sessions over three months.
The School Mental Health Practitioner works alongside the student and family to identify difficulties, determine goals and complete a SMHS Wellbeing and Safety plan. This information is then used to plan future sessions.
There is often a large focus on skill building and providing helpful information to support students to develop coping strategies and assist students and families to understand their current situation.
Is there a cost?
No – the SMHS is free and fully funded by the Department for Education. A Mental Health Care Plan is not needed to access the service.
